FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 7th 2011
Media & Diversity Conference in Townsville
With the confirmation of keynote speakers such as Senator the Hon Kate Lundy - Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Hon Teresa Gambaro MP - Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Settlement and Quentin McDermott - Reporter from ABC Four Corners, the annual International Unity in Diversity conference in Townsville is shaping up to a fine start.
Registrations for the Conference are now open with the early bird closing date on 1st July 2011.
Held in conjunction with the Cultural Fest, the fourth International Unity in Diversity Conference will be held on the 18-19th August at the Rydges Southbank Townsville.
With the theme of ‘Media, Marginality and Diversity’, the 2011 conference will bring to light and scrutinise the way traditional and new media and policy engage with diversity issues.
Conference Convener, Dr Farvardin Daliri OAM says the conference will stimulate delegates to develop new ways of looking at how the media represents the ‘so called’ marginal sector comprising of culturally diverse and indigenous individuals and communities and those with disabilities and the elderly.
“This conference is unique in its capacity to attract a diverse range of interests for discussion and dialogue on a wide range of issues affecting people of the world. The conference hopes to raise awareness of the fact that human agencies need to work collaboratively and harmoniously towards addressing the pressing global and national issues such as global warming, the increasing number of global refugees and the application of the charter of human rights. As the theme of the conference indicates, media has a crucial role in all these areas which affects our lives in one way or another.” Dr Daliri said.
The conference program will include presentations from an exciting range of presenters including professionals, educators and leading experts in the areas of media, health, community services and government policy.
Some of our speakers are travelling from as far as Spain, Nepal and India and have expressed great enthusiasm to be part of the conference.
