Anne Barton 
Community Activist, A World Beyond White
Anne is the great grand daughter of Australia’s first Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton. For the last 15 years she has been examining her privileged white heritage in the context of white racism in Australia, in particular its role in the maintenance of oppressive structures in a white settler society, and has been running anti-racism workshops for the last five years. In 2010 and 2011 she presented at the annual White Privilege Conference in the US, and in 2011 published a paper on claiming a racialised identity in the Indigenous Law Bulletin. Currently she works part time as a social planner for local government, is completing a Masters of Social Science degree at RMIT University Melbourne, and has developed ‘A World Beyond White’ initiative to talk widely about white privilege.

Professor Bob Carter
Adjunct Research Fellow, James Cook University, Townsville.
Professor Carter is a palaeontologist, stratigrapher, marine geologist and environmental scientist with more than 40 years professional experience. He has held tenured academic staff positions at the University of Otago and James Cook University as Professor and Head of School of Earth Sciences between 1981 and 1999. He has served as Chair of the Earth Sciences Discipline Panel of the Australian Research Council, Chair of the national Marine Science and Technologies Committee, Director of the Australian Office of the Ocean Drilling Program, and Co-Chief Scientist on ODP Leg 181 (Southwest Pacific Gateways). Currently he is the Chief Science Advisor to the International Climate Science Coalition and an Emeritus Fellow of the Institute of Public Affairs.

Dr. Farvardin Daliri OAM

Dr Daliri is the Director of the Townsville Intercultural Centre. He is the event organizer and promoter of the ‘Cultural Fest’ an annual festival in which 80,000 people participate. Dr Daliri is also a consultant to Malaruch Aboriginal Corporation in Weipa, Gudjuda Reference Group Aboriginal Corporation in Ayr and Wadja Family Aboriginal Corporation in Rockhampton. He has initiated many major community education projects and Cross Cultural Awareness sessions towards a more cohesive and inclusive society, including: Ship of Hope monument, the Rainbow Serpent Monument, the Unity in Diversity Project and the 60 meter long Carpet Snake project for the Indigenous community in Ayr. He has been a member of the Regional Ministerial Forum representing culture, sport and recreation, a member of International Advisory Council of TODA Institute for Global Peace and Research and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. He is a well-respected artist and is the Chief Executive Officer of Tabarsi Pty Ltd. Dr Daliri has received the Order of Australia Medal, the Australia Day award for promoting multiculturalism and reconciliation and a Centenary of Federation Medal for community service.

Ms Gambaro was first elected to parliament at the 1996 federal election, in the division of Petrie and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence in July 2004, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade in January 2006. In 2007 she was appointed Assistant Minister for Immigration and Citizenship.
After spending two years away from politics, Ms Gambaro re-entered Federal Parliament as the member for Brisbane at the 2010 federal election.
Now representing the bustling inner city seat of Brisbane, Ms Gambaro also has portfolio responsibility in the form of the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance and the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Settlement.
In September 2010 she was appointed Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Settlement by Opposition leader, Tony Abbott.
Ms Gambaro currently sits on the Joint Standing Committee for Migration.

Senator the Hon Kate Lundy was first elected to the Senate in the Australian Federal Parliament in 1996. After the 2010 election, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and for Immigration and Citizenship. In February 2011, Senator Lundy was sworn in as the Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs. The title change reflects her additional responsibilities associated with the implementation of the government's new multicultural policy.
Prior to the 2010 election, she was also Chair of the Joint Standing Committee for the National Capital and External Territories and a long-standing member of the Senate Environment, Communications and the Arts Committee.
She also held many portfolios in opposition including Information Technology, Sport and Recreation, Manufacturing, Consumer Affairs, Local Government and Health Promotion.

Georgie has lived in Indonesia, Argentina and Japan and has a strong interest in cultural diversity and media policy.

Margaret is currently State Manager for National Disability Services and Adjunct Professor at the University of Tasmania.

Zlatko Skrbis is Dean of The University of Queensland Graduate School and chair-elect of Deans and Director of Graduate Schools in Australia. He was previously Professor of Sociology, Deputy Head of the School of Social Science, and Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. As the Dean of the Graduate School he is responsible for recruitment, progression and completion of research higher degree programs throughout the university and contributes to strategic direction in the area of research higher degree training. He gained his PhD from Flinders University as a recipient of the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship. As a sociologist with an international reputation in the fields of migration, nationalism and social theory, Professor Skrbis has been Vice-President of The Australian Sociological Association and Vice-President of the ISA Research Committee on Racism, Nationalism and Ethnic Relations. He is the author of numerous articles and three books: Long-distance Nationalism, Constructing Singapore and The Sociology of Cosmopolitanism.

Associate Professor Gracelyn Smallwood
Bindal Aboriginal Elder & Advisor to the Vice Chancellor on Indigenous Issues, James Cook University
Associate Professor Gracelyn Smallwood is an Aboriginal Elder with more than 25 years experience in all areas of Indigenous affairs, health and human rights.
Gracelyn currently works at the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre as nurse and mentor, and at Townsville Hospital as a nurse and midwife. She is Associate Professor and Indigenous Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor at James Cook University and has been a driving person behind James Cook University’s progressive Reconciliation Statement.
